Macinaggio, the tourist port of Capo Corso, because of its geographical position "at the far end of this so-called proteso towards the sea", is Corsica's first scallop, facing the Tuscan archipelago and not far from the Isola di Capraia and the Isola d'Elba.
An isola can be explored from its coastline, through beaches that invite you to relax, explore and enjoy other activities. Qui in Corsica, where the Mediterranean becomes Mar Ligure and Mar Tirreno, si attraversa il Canale di Corsica, percorrendo a Nord le coste che svelano bellezze incontaminate e scoprendo il capo Corso con il suo porto turistico, Macinaggio. A land of sailors, Cape Corso is a land unto itself. Racchiude tantissime realtà. Every step is a new journey, a new discovery. Sober and pure, conquered with its own straordinaria autenticità.
Already known to the Greeks, Romans, Saracens and Genovesians, the bay of Macinaggio is a natural river destined to become a port. A commercial, fishing and military port, it has served a variety of functions in different eras, until its modern-day transformation into a tourist port.
Macinaggio corresponds to the marina of the Comune di Rogliano. This locality, which lies adjacent to the mountains and is radicated on the territory, still retains the splendour of the historic capital of Capo Corso and, in its culturally rich frazioni, recounts the history so characteristic of this land cut off from the sea. Its parish church is the only one in Corsica to have a chapel dedicated to sailors and to host a number of votive offerings. Napoleone Bonaparte, Pasquale Paoli and the Empress Eugenia were among its most illustrious guests.
La vicinanza con le coste francesi e italiane ha favorito gli scambi e regalato agli uomini e alle donne un'apertura mentale, una semplicità e un senso dell'ospitalità, tipici di capo Corso. This land of sailors, proud of their identity, their culture and the beauty of the land but also bound to their mountain village, offers a fascinating itinerary between sea and land. Every sight catches the eye and invites you to explore. So it's well worth taking a break in this magnificent setting and taking a close look at a true gem of the Isola della Bellezza.
